Winneba Varsity Campus For Krobo

The University of Education, Winneba will by the end of April 2015 establish a campus at Manya-Krobo, DAILY GUIDE has gathered. The University Council last Monday met the chief of Odumase Krobo, Konor Nene Sakite II and the Traditional Council to finalize negotiations for the establishment of the public university. Konor Nene Sakite II, in speech during the Ngmayem Thanksgiving Service, noted that God had answered his prayers through the proposal to establish the University at Manya-Krobo. For me, I will never be jealous of what other people have because if I ask God, he will also give me. Last Friday, during the Ngmayem grand durbar, because I was not envious, I thanked the government during my speech for bringing a new public university to Yilo-Klo for it is the same Kloma. Then when I got home after the durbar, one of the professors from one of the public universities came to me, and told me his university wants me to release land for them to set up a new satellite campus for their university here in Manya-Klo, he added. The Chairman of the Kloma Hengme Association, a Krobo advocacy and heritage grouping, Isaac Tamatey Otu, told DAILY GUIDE that the establishment of the satellite campus of the University of Education on Krobo Land would offer opportunities to many people, including the indigenes. He therefore called on government to expedite action on the project, adding that the government had delayed in fulfilling its promise to the Krobo people. The Mount Mary College of Education, Ensign College of Health Sciences at Kpong and the University of Ghana Agricultural Research Centre have all been sited in Krobo land, with government proposing to establish the Eastern Regional University in the area.
