"No Amount Of Money Can Compensate Teachers' Efforts" - Director

Mrs Esther Ama Bossman, Upper Manya Krobo District Director of Education, has observed that, teachers effort in enhancing education in the country is priceless. She said no amount of money can fully propitiate the sacrifices teachers are rendering in preparing future leaders for the nation, and urged them to look beyond financial gains in the discharge of their duties. Mrs Bossman was opening a four-day capacity-building workshop on Inclusive Education for teachers at Asesewa . The workshop was organized by the International Child Development Programme (ICDP), a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO), with sponsorship from PLAN Ghana, also a child-oriented NGO. According to Mrs Bossman, in spite of the already huge task on them, teachers still have the duty of promoting inclusive education in their various classrooms. She said, the need for inclusive education in Ghana was long overdue, and that teachers were expected to champion the successful mainstreaming of special children into the main schools. This will help to eliminate discrimination against children with disabilities, and to also improve their self esteem, she added. Mrs Bossman welcomed the intervention from the ICDP into the district, and urged the participants to take advantage of the workshop to enhance inclusive education in the Upper Manya Krobo District. Mrs Joyce Larnyo, Country Director for ICDP, urged teachers and workers in the educational sector, to re-define certain conceptions they have about children. She said, instead of unconsciously excluding children with special needs in the teaching and learning process, teachers should rather include and enable them actively participate in the process. The ICDP is a competence building organization in the field of psycho-social care among teachers, caregivers and children. It aims at strengthening the capacity of teachers, caregivers and families, to provide comprehensive care to children during childhood, with emphasis on better care practices, to prevent violence and abuse.
