Leading member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dan Abodakpi has noted that successive governments� change of focus and attention has deepened Ghana�s unemployment rate under the Fourth Republic.
Addressing delegates of the NDC in Kumasi, Mr Abodakpi said the loss of focus has really affected Ghana�s job creation drive over the years.
He said the Inland Port, for instance, which he initiated as far back as 1998, is yet to be completed, even though the first face was completed before 2007. He said the main project which could have provided over 400,000 jobs has halted.
Mr Abodakpi said visibility studies conducted before 1998 suggested Fumesua for the Port project, but land litigation delayed the project for two years.
�Even though plans and documents were ready for the take-off, my predecessor lost focus in creating employment for the masses which I feel disappointed about whenever I start thinking about the great opportunities involved.�
According to him, he sometimes feels so embarrassed when the word unemployed graduates flashes his ear, because the nation could have enjoyed so many benefits through the noble project.
He urged the NDC delegates to vote for him and he will draw the attention of his president to work hard towards achieving Ghana�s� development agenda since it is the responsibility of the party chairman to create jobs for his party, as well as every Ghanaian when in power.
