Prez Mahama Sacks ECG Boss

President John Dramani Mahama has appointed Robert Dwamena as acting Managing Director of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG). A statement signed by the Chief of Staff, Prosper Bani, said the former Managing Director of ECG, Rev. Ing. William Hutton-Mensah, who is on his annual leave, is to report to the Ministry of Energy and Petroleum for re-assignment. Mr. Dwamena, the Director of Procurements at the ECG started his career with the Engineering Directorate of the Company in 1982. President Mahama has meanwhile asked the Omanhene of Abeadze and President of the Central Regional House of Chiefs, Daasebre Kwebu Ewusi VII, to act as Chairman of the Board of Directors of the ECG. It follows the resignation of Tony Oteng Gyasi on health grounds. The nation's power producers and distributors have been struggling to meet the generation targets needed for industries, businesses and homes despite increasing tariffs twice in 2014. This compelled the ECG to release a load-shedding timetable but there have been complaints from the public about inconsistencies in the power outage schedules. Meanwhile, the increase in shedding is expected to continue in the coming weeks.
