Districts League Table To Be Launched By CDD & UNICEF Ghana

Is your district performing well when it comes health, education, sanitation, water, security and governance? If you have no answer, just hold your peace, the Centre for Democratic Development (CDD-Ghana) and UNICEF Ghana would soon release the first results of performance by the various districts in Ghana. The maiden District League Table (DLT) would be launched by the Local Government and Rural Development Minister, Hon. Julius Debrah on Tuesday, November 25, at the Alisa Hotel. The launch is to encourage citizens to hold government officials accountable in the services they provide. Head of Research and Programmes at CDD-Ghana, Mr. Franklin Oduro, announced in a meeting with journalists that the DLT would serve as a measurable tool to measure development in the various districts. Assessment of the various districts would be based on performance in the health, education, sanitation, water, security and governance. The ultimate aim according to the organizers is to promote healthy competition amongst the various districts in order to enhance the welfare of citizens. According to Mr Oduro, when citizens are well informed they will demand accountability and officials or duty-bearers will respond appropriately.
