Health Education Necessary

Project Director of Ghana Coalition of Health NGOs (GCNH,) Kwasi Amenuvor, has underscored the need for public education on health. Speaking on the theme; Accelerating Universal Access to Health in the Post 2015 Development Framework at the 2014 Annual Regional Health forum of GCNH in Accra, he indicated that communities in the country should be educated on how to handle certain diseases, especially opportunistic diseases like malaria, cholera, instead of leaving everything in the hands of health workers. That, he explained, would help save lives and also prevent diseases from becoming epidemic as communities would be able to know how to prevent such diseases in their early stages. For his part, Greater Accra regional chairman of GCNH, Barimah B. Abdulai, disclosed that the Coalition will provide public health and safety interventions across the nation through evidence based advocacy, empowerment of members, innovative programming, organisational development and behaviour change communication. He noted that the current health situation in the country, notably the outbreak of cholera, coupled with the fears that have gripped almost every citizen about the Ebola disease, it would be proper for health education to be a priority.
