With the removal of the Managing Director of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), Rev. Ing William Hutton-Mensah from his post, the Managing Editor of the Daily Searchlight newspaper, Ken Kuranchie has stated that President Mahama is engaging in illegality. According to him, ECG has an Enabling Act that determine who should lead the management of the electricity company and when the management should end, per the performance in review. He added that the Electricity Company of Ghana is managed by a Board and so it is the sole responsibility of the Board to appoint and sack the Managing Director and not the Chief of Staff, Prosper Bani or the President. To him, the President is enjoined to govern the nation by law and his decision to remove the Managing Director of ECG contrary to the Enabling Acts of ECG will spell doom for him if it is detected that he flouted the law. He was resolute that President Mahama should have consulted the Attorney-General for advise over his decision to remove the MD of ECG; maintaining that his decision has legal implications. �ECG has Enabling Acts that guide them. And so I ask, who appointed the MD of ECG? Was he appointed by the President or the Board of ECG? If the ECG Board appointed him, can Prosper Bani sack the ECG boss? It is something we have to investigate; it has legal consequences if the President took a decision contrary to the law�, he stated on Oman Fm�s Morning Show. He however was of the view that the creation of the Ministry of Power will serve no useful purpose. ��..whether you call it Ministry of Energy or Ministry of Power, it is the same thing. What you really want to do is to improve the content of the product and not the name. If you create new Ministry but you don�t add up to the machines needed to support the ministry, or the crude oil to power the Thermal Plant and you don�t improve the personnel at the ministry; what you are going up with is the same of the results that you had before�, he asserted.
