Ofosu Ampofo Tells NPP To Respect President Mahama

The main opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) must give President John Mahama the respect he and his Office deserve, former local government and rural development Minister Samuel Ofosu Ampofo has said. The former National Organiser of the governing NDC has deplored the situation where, according to him, elements of the NPP organise demonstrations to disgrace President Mahama anytime he travels outside the country. In August this year, a group of Ghanaians living in the United States of America demonstrated against the President while he was there for the US-Africa Leaders Summit. A different group, which called itself Concerned Ghanaians in the United Kingdom, also went on a similar demonstration against the President in Britain in October over worsening economic conditions in Ghana. Ofosu Ampofo said unlike the NPP, which deliberately organises such demonstrations to embarrass President Mahama abroad, the NDC, while in opposition, gave President John Kufuor the needed respect, and, therefore, wondered why the NPP are not returning the favour. The former Legislator, in an interview with Kwadwo Asare Barfour Acheampong (KABA) on ASEMPA FMs Ekosii Sen political programme on Tuesday said he was puzzled as to why there are always a flurry of such demonstrations only when the NDC is in power. The NDC Vice Chairman aspirant made references to a past demonstration against Jerry Rawlings while in Office as President, as well as the more recent demonstrations against President Mahama in the US and UK, to buttress his point. He insists those demonstrations were the handiwork of NPP members.
