The Agona Swedru Divisional Police Commander, Chief Superintendent of Police Ahmed Issah Yakubu has advised Zongo community leaders to desist from pressurizing police to grant bail to relatives involved in narcotic drugs offences He said the law did not allow bail for people accused of dealing in narcotic drugs. Mr Yakubu made this known at a forum to sensitize the Muslim youth of the Agona Swedru Old Zongo about the dangers of narcotic drugs trading. The forum was organized by Mr Abubakar Alhasan, Assemblyman for Swedru Old Zongo Electoral Area and Darul Sallam, Muslim Youth Organization based at Agona Swedru. The Police Commander said recent swoops made by the police at known narcotic drugs centers showed that most of the suspects were from Zongo communities in the Municipality. He said this was not the best and urged the Muslim leaders to organize more educational programmes to educate the youth to desist from narcotic drug trading. The Commander said he was prepared to assist the Zongo communities in the areas of education, sanitation and issues that would bring development into the lives of the youth. Mr Alhasan said the forum would be replicated to other Zongo communities in the Agona West and Agona East to educate the youth to move away from the narcotic drugs. He expressed concern about the behaviour of some youth in the Municipality and prayed that the forum would help change them for the better. Mr Ibrahim Mohammed, Chairman of the Swedru Old Zongo Educational Endowment Fund, said 14 needy but brilliant students at senior high schools had been given 300 Ghana Cedis each to pay their fees. Nana Daafi Salufu, Swedru Old Zongo Chief, appealed to the corporate bodies, Muslim organizations, banks and rich individuals to contribute into the fund to cover more needy students in the Zongo communities.
