Prez Mahamas Resolute Stance Rewarding After All

President John Dramani Mahama, should walk with his head high. He has made millions of Ghanaians who voted en bloc to make him president very proud, by not only representing their interest, but sharing in their frustration and dream. I believed him when he asked for my votes by promising to change how politics and politicians, use power to enrich themselves and their family, friends, to the detriment of the greater good, whose heritage is Ghana. He finds himself in a very unfortunate position, because his predecessors only paid lip service to our plight and when they did act, it was only a window dressing. Like a friend used to joke that the surface of cow dung is dry, but the inside is hot. Before you raise your hands in protest, it wont be for the reason you think. I am not for a moment suggesting that our former Presidents, since we ushered in the 1992 dispensation had done nothing, and that President Mahama, is the only one with the magic wand to turn the fortunes around, my point is that when we solve problems that has the tendency of recurring with short term solutions, we are bound to fail and that unfortunately has been the bane of this country. In the late 90s under the leadership of Jerry John Rawlings, this country experienced load-shedding, so was during the era of John Agyekum Kufuor, for these two leaders, the reason for the erratic power supply, was because of the low water level at the Akosombo Dam. The finest moment was presented to these leaders, to try other sources of generating electricity either than the hydro that we so much rely on. But they failed to cease the moment, until John Evans Atta Mills came in, not so much was achieved under him, with regards to adding the national grid, except to complete what his predecessor had started, and that is the Bui Dam. President John Dramani Mahama, is the unluckiest of all of them, he ascended onto the throne at a time the problem was more pronounced and widespread than ever. For what reasons, except to say that Divine knows that he is the best person to handle the crisis we are in today. His problems spans from electricity to salary, infrastructure, education, back-biting from his own people, etc. he has despite all these problems, remained afloat, resolute and is sure to steer the ship to safety, despite all the opposition, he is receiving from both within his party and without. Even the internal election to elect executives to man the affairs of the party, he has been accused of supporting some people, against others, all in an attempt to hung the man dry. We can all continue to criticize him or see the good in what he is trying to do. He is not engaged in window dressing, all he has done since he took the oath of office on January 7, 2013, was to institute and embark upon projects that will not only benefit us, but will benefit the future generation. I could be wrong, but I believe that when the President, finally hands over power in 2022, he will go down in history, as the best only after Dr. kwame Nkrumah. I will want to outline in six years, what the National Democratic Congress government under the leadership of John Evans Atta Mills and John Dramani Mahama, had achieved and continue to, in the Northern Region, despite the teething problems that neither created, but inherited. 1. Tamale International Airport 2. Navrongo Solar Plant (adds 5mw of power to the national grid and provides 40 per cent of electricity to the catchment areas) 3. Tamale Teaching Hospital 4. Upper West Regional Hospital 5. Nalerigu-Gambaga Road 6. Navrongo-Tumu-Wa Road 7. Sawla-Fufulsu Road 8. Eastern Corridor Roads 9. Sheanut Processing Plant In Buipe (Ghana/Brazil Collaboration) 10. Gushegu Health Assistant School 11. Gambaga Training College 12. Newly Established OLA Girls SHS 13. Water Project in Wa-To Serve the Upper West and some parts of Northern Region 14. Regional ICT Centres 15. Sugar Processing Plant In Savelugu District 16. Aboabo Super Market in Tamale. These do not include the CHPS Compounds in the Region and District Hospitals, which the government has established. It also does not include the governments Community Senior High Schools of which the three northern regions have allocations out of the 73 so far. On rural electrification, the government has extended electricity to hundreds of communities in the north. This is only what happening in the North The list as far as development going on in the North is endless. Little can be said of the New Patriotic Partys (NPP) eight years in office. Former President John Agyekum Kufuor in his eight years as Head of State, apart from the Tamale Sport Stadium and the Yendi Road, the NPP did nothing major for the people of the Northern Region. Posterity will vindicate the President as a transformational and progressive leader, who loves his country and is ready to take all the insults coming his way. In 2016, when the country goes to the polls, to elect the President, no matter the vilification, insult and the lack of trust, as well as believe in the capacity of President John Dramani Mahama, I have hope that all the problems confronting us today, will cease to exist. The problems are surmountable and the President has indicated both in deed and act that he will take this country to the promise land. He will beat Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, with a bigger margin than he did in 2012, when he had only three months to campaign.
