Minister Pays Maiden Working Visit To Anglogold Ashanti Iduapriem Mine

The Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Mr. Nii Osah Mills has paid a working visit to AngloGold Ashanti Iduapriem Mine in Tarkwa. The visit which is the Minister�s maiden visit to the Iduapriem Mine was also his first visit to an operating Mine in Ghana since he assumed office. The visit was to among others things offer the minister an opportunity to familiarize himself with operational activities of AngloGold Ashanti Iduapriem Mine. The Sector Minister commended the Mine for the feat achieved in its operations despite the challenges confronting the industry. He added that government will continue to engage with mining companies and provide them with platform for timely discussions to enhance sustainability and protection of investments. He said the Inspectorate Division of the Minerals Commission will be strengthened to proactively inspect all operating mines to ensure compliance with national best practices programmes of mining operations. Among the team in the company of the Minister were the Chief Inspector of Mines at the Minerals Commission and the Acting CEO of the Chamber of Mines. He added that government places premium on the mining sector and called for more engagement between the industry and stakeholders. On his part, Managing Director of Iduapriem Mine, Sicelo Ntuli, indicated that AngloGold Ashanti Iduapriem Mine will continue to demonstrate its commitment to leaving communities with a sustainable future as a responsible mining company. He affirmed that AngloGold Ashanti Iduapriem Mine has a clear social investment strategy which focuses on Education and Youth Development, Health, Water and Sanitation and Local Economic Development. The strategy, he said, is implemented in partnership with the Tarkwa Nsuaem Municipal Assembly and hosts communities.
