Vodafone Ghana has rolled out a sponsorship package for 10 brilliant but needy ladies pursuing Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) courses at University of Education, Winneba (UEW) to boost female participation in national development. Stella Agyenim-Boateng, Director of Human Resources at Vodafone Ghana said: �Vodafone believes in empowering women to become successful in their career choices. These ladies are studying Science to subsequently teach and impact our communities and we are happy to be standing beside them to ensure that their dream becomes reality. We hope to subsequently invite them to visit our offices to experience our brand at first hand�. Aside the sponsorship, Mrs Agyenim-Boateng emphasised that Vodafone will mentor beneficiaries in respect of their future aspirations, as part of the company�s Diversity & Inclusion agenda of giving everybody a fair chance. Vodafone, currently, has an existing Female Engineering Students Sponsorship programme with KNUST and GTUC where girls excelling in engineering are sponsored for their final year in the university. These young engineers are then mentored by female employees in Vodafone and given the opportunity to do internship or undertake their National Service and consequently become Full Time Employees. Angela Mensah-Poku, Head of Vodafone Business Solutions expressed her optimism about how the partnership will improve the representation of female students in the Science and technology industry. Rev. Father Professor Anthony Afful-Broni, Pro-Vice Chancellor of University of Education, Winneba applauded Vodafone Ghana for championing female education and encouraged other corporate entities to emulate their efforts. He also congratulated the award recipients, urging them to remain examples of excellence and to give back freely to society in future.
