A total of about thirty male employees of Vodafone Ghana have embarked on a day�s mentorship programme for 400 boys drawn from eight Junior High Schools (JHS) in Accra, as part of Vodafone�s heartbeat for CSR.
The programme dubbed �Men�s Day: Let�s Talk� partnered Leading Ladies Network, a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO), to engage students at the Christ the King Church Hall, near Flagstaff House in Accra.
Commenting on the rational for the training, Stella Appiah-Nkansah, Human Resources Director of Vodafone Ghana said:
�We took notice of developmental issues that boys, between ages 12 to 16, have and made a conscious effort to deliver spot-on guidance to them where needed�.
Participants were taken through topics including what it means to be a real man, skills needed for the new world, and �boys talk�.
The students were drawn from Prince of Peace International School, Kaneshie 1 Junior High School, Winston Salem Junior High School, Rev. Thomas Clegg Memorial School, Osu Salem School, Sunflower School, Crown Prince Academy and God�s Grace International School.
Iris Owusu-Manu, Vodafone HR Business Partner for Corporate Functions urged the selected boys to see the training given them as an opportunity to lead good lives and be role models in their homes, schools and everywhere they find themselves.
Other speakers at the training session encouraged the students to prioritize higher education and stay focused on their academics if they want to make a positive impact on society.
During the �boys talk� segment of the programme, students got the opportunity to interact with facilitators and to ask questions on whether it�s good to date in school, dealing with female peers and how to handle issues at home.
