Minister Commissions Fire Tenders For Northern Region

The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) in the Northern Region has taken delivery of seven new fire tenders, for distribution to districts and institutions, to boost its efforts at combating fire in the Region. The beneficiary districts included Nanumba North, East Mamprusi, Sawla-Tuna-Kalba, Sagnarigu and Tamale Metro, while the institutions were the Tamale Teaching Hospital and the Tamale Campus of the University for Development Studies. Alhaji Mohammed Muniru Limuna, Northern Regional Minister, commissioned the fire tenders and handed them over to the beneficiaries in Tamale. Alhaji Limuna said the procurement of the tenders formed part of efforts by government to strengthen the security agencies with the necessary logistics, to enable them to effectively discharge their duties. He urged the GNFS in the Region to educate the public on ways to avoid fires rather than waiting for them to occur before fighting them. He also urged the beneficiary districts and institutions to support the GNFS in their jurisdictions to discharge their functions. Assistant Chief Fire Officer, Mr Douglas Koyiri, Northern Regional Fire Officer, said the new fire tenders would help to ensure swift response to emergency situations.
