Minister Pays Working Visit To Anglogold Ashanti Iduapriem Mine

The Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Mr Nii Osah Mills, has paid a working visit to AngloGold Ashanti Iduapriem (AAI) Mine in Tarkwa to familiarize himself with its operational activities. The minister, who was accompanied by the acting Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Chamber of Mines, Dr Sulemanu Koney and the Chief Inspector of Mines at the Minerals Commission, Mr Obiri Yeboah-Tumasi, commended the mine for the massive achievement despite the challenges confronting the industry. Mr Mills said government would continue to engage mining companies and provide them with platform for timely discussions to enhance sustainability and protection of investments. He noted that the Inspectorate Division of the Minerals Commission would be strengthened to proactively inspect all operating mines to ensure compliance with national best practices of mining operations. Mr Mills said government placed premium on the mining sector and, therefore, called for more engagement between the industry and stakeholders. The Managing Director of Iduapriem Mine, Mr Sicelo Ntuli, said AAI Mine would continue to demonstrate its commitment to ensuring sustainable development of communities in its area of operation. He said that AAI Mine had a clear social investment strategy which focused on education and youth development, health, water and sanitation and local economic development. The strategy, he said, was being implemented in partnership with the Tarkwa Nsuaem Municipal Assembly and host communities.
