Be Loyal To Your Employees - Mrs. Nduom

Mrs. Yvonne Nduom, Executive Chairperson of Coconut Grove Beach Resort, a subsidiary of the Group Ndoum Companies, has admonished entrepreneurs and other business owners to be loyal to their employees by appreciating them. She said human resource was the heartbeat of every organisation and was therefore very imperative to cherish and make employees feel part of the organisation. Mrs. Ndoum said this in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) on the sidelines of a durbar held on Saturday at Elmina, to commemorate the 20th anniversary of Coconut Grove Beach Resort. The colourful ceremony brought together traditional, religious and political leaders, employees and stakeholders of the Group Ndoum Companies (GNC), their clients and a cross section of the public. Mrs. Ndoum who is also wife of the Founder of the Progressive Peoples Party, Dr. Papa Kwesi Ndoum, said the resort had been able to achieve a lot of successes over the past twenty years, because they had cherished and appreciated their employees, adding that it was the reason some employees were still with the group. Coconut Grove Beach Resort, which started on December 14, 1994 with one bedroom, a small conference hall and a verandah with six staff members, can now boast of over 350 workers and serves more than 200 guests a week. We cherish our staff, we know that we cannot do the job by ourselveswe need people, therefore we make them feel that they are important part of the organisation, she added. Mrs. Ndoum said that employers needed to give their employees regular training to ensure that they obtained the necessary skills that modern organisations demanded as that would make employees give off their best. She mentioned that in the hospitality industry, customers only took with them memories, and therefore Coconut Grove tried to give their customers the kind of treatment that would make them have good memories. Mr. Ralph Ayitey, General Manager of Coconut Grove Regency Hotel, Accra, said the business mindset and style of Dr. Papa Kwesi Ndoum was very commendable and therefore urged business owners to emulate him. He said even though Coconut Grove was a family business owned by Dr. Ndoum and his family, there was no family interference and that every manager had been given the power to run their respective offices. Mr. Ayitey expressed gratitude to Mr. and Mrs. Ndoum for their increased support and encouragement, which he said had made employees of coconut grove responsible individuals in their families.
