DR Ronald Sowah, the Western Regional Co-ordinator of the HIV/AIDS programme, has called on all well-meaning Ghanaians to be sexually responsible during the Christmas festivities to avoid contracting sexual transmitted diseases, particularly HIV.
He said STIs, and for that matter HIV/AIDS, was no respecter of persons, adding that Ghanaians must work at bridging the gap and reducing new infections through safe sex.
Dr Sowah was speaking at a talk show organised by the Regional HIV and AIDS team to mark the World AIDS Day at the Bethel Methodist Church in Takoradi.
He said HIV/AIDS is mainly transmitted through unprotected sex with an infected person, as well as through mother to child.
Currently, 1.9% of the regions pregnant women are positive, with the regional prevalence accounting for 2.4%.
