Chief of Staff Must Justify His Overspending

Financial analyst John Gatsi, has advised the Chief of Staff, Prosper Bani, to find appropriate means to justify the staggering overspending of his budget. A report by the finance committee shows that the Office of the chief of staff spent Ghc48.8 million instead of the Ghc7.4 million allocated to it in the 2014 budget. The amount was spent out of a total of Ghc326.8 million allocated to Government machinery for the year 2014. Chairman of the Finance Committee in Parliament, James Klutse Avedzi, explained to Parliament that the total amount allocated to government machinery is a combination of the original and supplementary budgets. Speaking to STARR TODAY,Tuesday, Gatsi said the Chief of Staff should meet the right authorities behind the scenes and explain the miscellaneous expenditure that might have blown his budget out of proportion. Behind the scenes, it should be very easy for the office of the Chief of Staff to explain the nature of the miscellaneous activities that normally demand for high expenditure above budget. He added: So that those in parliament can have a sense of idea the volume of miscellaneous activities that take place that will demand that high level of expenditure.
