The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament (MP) for Keta, Richard Quashigah, has asked his colleague MPs on the Minority side not to politicise the 2015 budget because it is a well thought-out budget that will lead the transformation of the economy for the better despite the transient economic challenges the country is facing.
He said for instance that the Minority were quick to criticise the 17.5 percent petroleum tax introduced by the budget without critically analysing the cost benefit to the nation.
According to him, prices of kerosine and LPG were substantially reduced to help the poor in the society while the price of premium just went up nominally.
�As we start looking at the budget estimates for the various ministries, departments and agencies, I will like my colleague NPP MPs to discuss the estimates dispassionately because they are fond of doing politics with almost every issue that comes on the Floor of Parliament,� he said, stressing that it is only through bi-partisanship approach to issues in Parliament that the citizenry would benefit.
�I am a new Member of this Parliament and what I have realised is that almost every discussion or debate in Parliament degenerates into politics, but as MPs we must first look at the general welfare of the people who we are representing,� Mr Quashigah added.
He commended President Mahama for presenting such a progressive budget which would change the economic direction of the country.
Mr Quashigah also explained that the completion of the Atuabo Gas would eventually help solve the energy crisis in the country, which, according to him, is now improving.
The Keta MP added that another commendable innovation by the NDC government was the creation of the Infrastructure Fund, which, he said, would help speed up infrastructural development in the country, adding that many road, hospital and school projects being undertaken across the country would definitely bring some reliefs to Ghanaians.
