Stop Sole Sourcing Contracts PAC To Govt

The Chairman of Parliaments Public Accounts Committee (PAC),Kwaku Agyemang Manu has asked government to stop the practice of sole-sourcing in awarding contracts for national projects. According to him, sole sourcing is the root cause of most of the corruption scandals that has hit the Mahama government. He said the selection of the companies to run or make procurements for the public private partnerships that has been indicted for various corrupt acts were done through sole sourcing. A number of public institutions, including the Ghana Youth Employment and Entrepreneurial Development Agency (GYEEDA), the Savannah Accelerated Development Authority (SADA) have been hit with a series of corruption scandals. In both cases, monies were paid to a number of companies who were awarded theh contracts through sole sourcing for no work done. Speaking in an interview with Citi News the Dormaa Central legislator insisted government cannot fight corruption without dealing with the many procurements and contracts done through sole sourcing. When the issues came up, we realized that there were no adverts for procurement. We never saw any advert in any national dailies requesting people to go and purchase documents to raise any files. We never saw any tender documents for these GYEEDA issues and that is the only implication. If you dont see competitive adverts. Adverts inviting people to competitively come and bid and then people get contracts to work. It can be nothing else than sole sourcing, he explained. The Minority in Parliament have on several occasions criticised government for awarding contracts through sole sourcing. They believe it is a major attempt by government to promote its interest.
