Baba Sheriff: Ill Groom Party Activists

A deputy national organizer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Alhaji Baba Sheriff, has stated that he is seeking re-election in order to groom and prepare young party activists ahead of the 2016 elections and beyond. According to the NDC kingpin, the present political environment demands that young activists of the party are taken through the social democratic credentials of the party to distinguish them from the other opposition parties. Speaking in an exclusive interview with TheaL-hAJJ, Alhaji Baba Sheriff, who holds the record as the person who rented the venue at which the NDC party was launched, revealed that political organization is not an easy task as others see it. I have been in the forefront of organization even before the NDC was launched as a political party. I worked as an auxiliary staff at the partys headquarters for over 15 years before contesting the national organizer postI was part of the young men who mobilized people to join the NDC when it was formed and I have been part of any organizational work in the party, he noted. The aspiring deputy national organizer said, it would be a great disservice to the NDC and Ghana if he does not impart the experience and valuable knowledge he has accumulated over the years in political organization to the young ones. He added when Im re-elected, Ill devote time to groom the young ones on how things are done in this party, particularly how to rally support for the party across the country. It would get to a time we the current crop of leaders would not be around to steer the affairs of the party, therefore it would be in the utmost interest of the party if I pass on my experience in organization to the up and coming ones. Touching on his chances ahead of the December 20 congress to be held in Kumasi, Alhaji Sheriff averred that although his contenders are within their rights to occupy the deputy national organizer position, I believe the delegates will look at my experience in that field and my performance to crown me winner. This is an internal contest and those Im contesting with are my friendsI can say some of them are like my children. Weve had very good relationshipwe have either worked on one project or the other in the past. But the delegates will access all of us based on our experience and what weve been able to achieve for the party and I believe with that, the delegates will re-elect me. The deputy national organizer position is currently being occupied by incumbents Alhaji Baba Sheriff and Captain Joshua Akamba. However, two party activists, Mahdi Jibrill and Raymond Apeker are on a heated campaign to dislodge them. The party will on Saturday, December 20 converge at the Baba Yara Sports stadium to elect new national officers that would lead the party into the crucial 2016 elections.
