Ho-Fume Road Ready In April

Construction works on the Ho-Fume road would be completed in April next year, Mr Anthony Lansana, Project Manager of Rolider Limited, the Company working on the road has said. Briefing Madam Helen Ntoso, Volta Regional Minister, on the progress of work at a site meeting, Mr Lansana said work on the 18 kilometre-road could be completed earlier should the government make some payment to the Company. He said the project, expected to be completed in 2012, delayed due to changes in the original design because of the mountainous nature of the area and delay in payment. Mr Lansana said work was about 83 per cent completed with just sub-base, base and sealing left to be done on about a three kilometre-stretch. He said communities along the road were already enjoying its benefits such as commerce and reduction in travelling time. Mr Lansana, however, complained about the frequent knocking down of signalization and other safety features on the road. Madam Ntoso said putting the road in good shape had been a great relief to the travelling public and commended Rolider for remaining on site and working despite delays in payment. She said the government had started paying contractors and gave the assurance that Rolider would soon be paid. Mr Sebastian Acheampong, Volta Regional Manager of Road Safety, who was also at the site meeting, condemned the spate of road crashes on the road, and urged drivers to be cautious of the sharp curves and bends on the road.
