Take Sanitation As A Collective Responsibility - NCCE

Mr Stephen Heymann, Officer-in-Charge of the Ablekuma South-West Sub Metro Office of the National Commission for Civic Education, has appealed to citizens to confront issues of sanitation as a collective responsibility. A statement signed by Mr Heymann and copied to the Ghana News Agency in Accra said every citizen had an obligation towards the environment and never think this obligation belongs to the Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies alone. Mr Heymann made the call when the office visited the Mamprobi Zone of the Help Age Association to educate them on sanitation. He said the assemblies were the lawful institutions mandated by the constitution to spearhead the issues of sanitation at the grassroots levels and facilitate citizens participate in all socio-developmental arrangements. �This role to be played by citizens is to make sure that indiscriminate waste disposal on the environment is stopped adding that when there is an outbreak of cholera and other sanitation related issues, it is the individual who suffers,� he said. Mr Heymann said it was imperative for every citizen to change their attitudes toward waste disposal and team up with the assemblies to manage waste effectively. Ms Druscilla Lartey, Head of Programmes at the Ablekuma South-West Sub �Metro Office, appealed to women to actively participate in the upcoming District Level Elections scheduled for March 2015. Mr Tetteh Tennyson, General Secretary of Mamprobi Help Age Association called on the communities under the Ablekuma South Constituency to look for competent candidates and not those who would mess around with development issues.
