Hearing Of Kwaw Keses Case Resumes Today

The Kumasi Metropolitan Circuit Court yesterday adjourned the case in which Kwaw Kese, a popular hiplife artiste, is being tried for smoking marijuana in the open, to today. That followed a submission by the prosecution that Emmanuel Botwe, popularly known as Kwaw Kese, had been sent to hospital. Immediately the prosecutor told the court that the accused had been taken to hospital for review and that he was seeking new date for the hearing, the Judge, Mr William Boampong said, I will wait for him to come today. I close at 5p.m. so I will wait till he comes. However, the prosecution, led by Superintendent of Police, Mr Emmanuel Ackonnor, pleaded with the court to adjourn the case to today by which time the accused would have returned from the hospital. This was the third adjournment since the case started on November 24, 2014 when the musician first appeared before the court charged for using a substance suspected to be narcotics without authority. Disappointment When the case was adjourned, disappointment was written on the faces of the many family members, friends and sympathisers who had thronged the court premises to catch a glimpse of the hiplife artiste. Among the many people who came to the court were musicians, Samini, Reggie Rockstone and his VVIP crew; Abrewa Nana, Tic Tac and actor, Kwadwo Nkansah, aka Liwin. Background On Saturday, November 22 around 11p.m, Kwaw Kese was spotted near Plus 2, a popular tavern in Kumasi, by members of the Drug Law Enforcement Unit publicly smoking a substance suspected to be marijuana. He was subsequently arrested and the substance sent to the Police Forensic Laboratory in Accra for testing. At the last court sitting on the case, the prosecution said the results of the test were ready to be exhibited in court on December 22, which was yesterday.
