Workers Demonstrate Over Meagre End Of Year Bonus

Workers of Piccadilly Biscuits Company in Accra yesterday staged a demonstration against management of the company over their end-of-year bonus. The demonstration, according to the workers is in reaction to the decision by the management of the company to pay them a small percentage of their salary as bonus. For about thirty years now, they have been given us bonuses before they give us our salary but this time, they have decided not to pay the bonus, some of the workers said. They continued that the management is only planning to offer them a one-week salary as bonus and this they described as meagre as the workers have in the past years worked to meet the demands of the market. In 2004, there were only two plants but now we are operating with about six plants yet we work to meet the capacity. Even the salary of employees who have worked for more than three years cannot boast of a salary of about three hundred Ghana cediswhat is that? the workers fumed. They insisted that they were not comfortable with the calculations of the management towards the payment of their bonus hence their anger. The workers also refuted allegations that they manhandled the Managing Director Mr. Bodesh.
