Breast cancer is one of the cancers that is killing women in the world and the case is not different in Africa and Ghana. Every sixty seconds, a woman somewhere in this world dies from Breast Cancer. Though the disease is deadly, the cause of it has not been identified. However, early detection of the symptoms and prompt action is noted to be the best remedy to survive from the disease. This therefore calls for more education and sensitization on the disease. Breast Care International is a non-governmental organization that has taken upon itself to educate women on the disease and also provide free screening for women. Thousands of women all over Ghana have benefited from this education and screening activities by the BCI. On the 20th December, 2014, the BCI team led by Dr. Mrs. Beatrice Wiafe Addai; the president of the Organization and also the CEO of Peace and Love Hospitals curried out a similar education and screening programme for the women at Adansi Fomena during the celebration of their annual Bona festival. Dr. Wiafe in her education lecture, highlighted on the risk factors, the signs and symptoms, method of investigations and diagnosis and the mode of treatment of the breast Cancer disease. She also made a pictorial presentation of the disease to the people. She also utilized this chance to teach the women how to perform their Breast-Self Examination (BSE) and advised them to perform it at least once a month. Survivors were also given the chance to share their experiences with the people. They encouraged the women not to be afraid and seek help early when they detect the disease early because that is the best way to survive from the disease. All the 450 women present were clinically screened for breast cancer after the education. Dr. Wiafe also donated 200 packs of Breast sense kits to the Queen-mother and people of Adansi Fomena to be distributed to the women present. The breast sense kits are special gloves that is made to increase the touch sensitivity of women during their BSE. The Queen-mother, Nana Amoanimaa Dede II showed her appreciation to Dr. Wiafe and her team for the education and the Kits presented to them. She further highlighted on the programme outline for the festival.
