Prez Mahama Presents Gifts To Gt Accra Regional House Of Chiefs

President John Dramani Mahama has presented gifts to the Greater Accra House of Chiefs at Dodowa to celebrate the Christmas.The items presented included a cow, 16 bags of rice and some cooking oil. The items were presented on his behalf by the Greater Accra Regional Minister,Nii Afotey Agbo at the end of year meeting of the house. He thanked the chiefs for their support to government during the year and promise that government would continue with its developments projects in the Greater Accra Region next year. Nii Afotey expressed great concern about how some police officers are supporting land guards and gangsters against substantive chiefs in the region. He cited a recent incident at Apollonia at Kpone where with the support of the Kpone District Commander, some land guards installed a chief of Apollonia under Kpone in the Kpone Katamanso District. Nii Afotey Agbo said the installation of the Apollonia chief was done without the knowledge of the Paramount Chief of Kpone and it nearly caused bloodshed in the area. "In areas where the police collect bribe and failed to discharge their duties, we shall use the military" he said. He explained that the chiefs are the custodians of their lands and was therefore right for the police to take decisions for them. The President of the house,Nene Abram Kabu Akuoko III, who received the items on behalf of the chiefs thanked President Mahama for the gifts. He appealed to the government to involve them in the planning of the next Homofest and if possible find a suitable name to replace the Homofest. He explained that the Homofest is for all chiefs in the Greater Accra Region; meanwhile it is not all towns in the Greater Accra Region that celebrate the Homowo festival. He also appealed to the government to rehabilitate the street leading to the House of Chiefs at Dodowa. The chiefs asked the police not to assist some youths in the region who want to be rich overnight to foment trouble in the region.
