Im Through With Reality Shows

The 2014 winner of the Vodafone Icons Remix Edition, Christian Owusu, has revealed that after taking part in three separate reality music shows, he is finally through with reality talent shows. Chris took part in the Stars of the Future reality show in 2009 where he claimed the first runner up position before moving to neighbouing Nigeria to take part in the third season of the MTN Project Fame competition but he was forced to withdraw from the competition due to ill health. In an interview with Graphic Showbiz last Tuesday, Christian revealed that he was motivated to keep auditioning and taking part in music reality shows because the expectations he had in all the previous shows he competed in where not being met. Christian disclosed that he received a lot of criticisms from the public as a result of his decisiosn to keep participating in music reality shows but he was determined to win the ultimate prize. You know Ghanaians talk a lot about everything. Whether it is good or bad, someone will have an opinion about it so I simply refused to listen to them. I heard comments that I was taking part in too many competitions but the truth is that the same people who criticise you, will also be the same ones to praise you when you succeed, he said. Christain told Showbiz that he was determined to fulfill his dream of becoming a musician, hence giving up was not an option, irrespective of how many shows and competitions he had to take part in. Christain admits that although he had gained valuable experience from taking part in different reality shows, that was not the main reason he emerged winner of the 2014 edition of Vodafone Icons. Evictions in the competition are decided on public votes and so even if you have experience and your performances are not up to scratch, you will certainly be kicked out, he said. He stressed that he knew what he wanted hence his determination to succeed but now that he had been able to achieve his goal, he was set to launch his career in January this year. I am done with competitions and I know it is time to let Ghanaians know what I have to offer by way of talent, he said. Christain revealed that he has decided to limit his songs exclusively to the genre of contemporary gospel since he has always had an interest in that area. Contemporary gospel is the genre of music Ive been doing for some time, anyone who has followed my journey through all the other reality shows can confirm that as well. Even during the Vodafone Icons competition, one of the judges, Miss Naa observed that gospel music was my strongest area, he revealed. Christian admits that although gospel music might not be as lucrative as the other genres of music, it is what I have decided to do and nothing else. He however disclosed that he would not be following the trend of sad gospel music done in the country but rather his brand of gospel music would have a more uplifting and modern feel to it. Chris emerged winner of the 2014 Vodafone Icons Remix Edition at the end of the 13 weeks competition. He beat Titi and Alice to win the ultimate prize of a brand new Nissan Qashqui, a recording contract with one of the worlds biggest record label, Universal Music and cash prizes all valued at GHC100, 000
