Most Pregnant Women Prefer Delivery Through Caesarian Section

Pregnant women have been advised to go through spontaneous vaginal delivery (SVD) because that is the best method. Mrs Jovial Nyarko-Ababio, a midwife in-charge of the Sunyani Regional Hospital labour ward, who gave the advice in an interview with theGhana News Agency (GNA) in Sunyani on Friday, observed that many pregnant women, for fear of going through the pain of birth, are opting for caesarean section (CS). She said 19 deliveries were recorded at the Hospital on December 31, 2014 and January 1 this year, but whilst eight of them were CS, 11 were SVD. Mrs Nyarko-Ababio stated that out of 24 births recorded from the night of December 24 to January 1, 10 were through CS and 14 SVD. She urged women who had had CS to practice family planning to enable their wounds to heal before any pregnancy to avoid complications at birth. The Sunyani Municipal Hospital recorded seven deliveries- four females and three males from the night of December 31 to January 1, Mrs Felicia Tuffour, a midwife at the labour ward who told the GNA. She said all the deliveries were through SVD.
