Teacher wants to serve in Ave-Havi Assembly

Mr Reuben Yao Dorwu, a 29-year-old teacher, has filed to contest the assembly member position for Ave-Havi Electoral Area in Akatsi North District with the pledge to inspire hope in the youth and send development to the people of the area. Mr Dorwu expressed concern about the slow pace of development of the area and promised to offer himself as "a bright, sacrificial lamp of progress and development" for his people, when given the nod. According to him, he would do everything within his means to connect the area to foreign investors and non-governmental organisations in the areas of agriculture, education, health and social services. In an interview with the GNA after filing his papers, he stated, "My people have lived in the socioeconomic doldrums for far too long. I think this is the time for a dynamic young man like me to lead in the fight for the salvation we have been yearning for". He has also called for peace and unity among his people as they prepared for the election and urged them not to dwell on the past as they charted a new path for progress and development. Mr Dorwu is a product of the Akatsi College of Education and holds a Diploma in Basic Education. He is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Education Degree in Basic Education at the University of Cape coast. The Electoral Commission of Ghana has fixed March 3, 2015 as the date for the district level elections, such as unit committee and assembly member elections across the country.
