AFCON 2015: Black Stars' Players To Receive $10,000 As Winning Bonus?

The west African giants captain says issues concerning the teams bonuses ahead of the Afcon have been solved, assuring a non repetition of Brazil debacle. Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan insists all the problems surrounding the Black Stars winning bonuses ahead of the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations have been thrashed out peacefully with officials. The Al Ain striker has promised there will be no repetition of the chaos that happened in Brazil where a private jet airlifted over $3 million from Ghana to players before playing Portugal in the final group games at the 2014 World Cup. The sports ministry has slashed down the bonuses of the team and each player is supposed to receive $5,000 per game irrespective of the outcome or stage of the tournament plus a whopping $60,000 each if they win the trophy, but the players are said to have vehemently rejected the offer. Before enplaning to Spain for training camp, Gyan confirmed to reporters all differences have been resolved. We didn't know or heard anything about it [the bonuses] from them [government] but heard it in the press, so during these holidays we sat with the board members talk about issues because we didn't want any of the Brazil issues to get in our heads again and everything went on successfully," Gyan explained. He added: We are happy now because everything has been resolved, we are not thinking about any money issues now. We want to prove to people is not all about money but how to succeed in Equatorial Guinea. We want to die for the nation and definitely what happened in Brazil is not going to happen again, we are now focused because what happened in Brazil discouraged many Ghanaians. Goal understands that each player will now receive $10,000 as winning bonus per game because headline sponsors the Ghana National Petroleum Authority has decided to top it up. Ghana will face off with Group C opponents Senegal, South Africa and Algeria.
