There Must Be By-Laws To Make National Sanitation Day Compulsory Julius Debrah

Last year, the Local Government Ministry with the Vice President, together with some eminent chiefs, launched the National Sanitation Day, to be observe on the first Saturday of every month. Following that, cleanup exercises have been held concurrently nationwide from 6:00 am to 9:00 am; every first Saturday of the month to help address the countrys poor sanitation issues. But many have questioned the exercise and described it as hopeless since it cannot last. However, speaking on JOY FM, Tuesday, the Local Government Minister, Julius Debrah is calling for a review of by-laws to make participation in National Sanitation Day compulsory for all Ghanaians. According to him, in order to ensure cleanliness in the country, the citizenry must dedicate themselves to fight filth without politicizing it. We are simply asking Ghanaians to dedicate 3 hours of their month to clean up their surroundings. What is really important for us is for Ghanaians to come to the realization that they shouldn't litter, he said. Julius Debrah further stressed that, he is much concerned about Ghana than his remuneration. Whether or not we do this campaign, I'll be paid but I am just concerned about Ghanaians, he noted on JOY FM
