Police Impounds 476 DV Plated Vehicles

The Greater Accra Police, have impounded 476 DV plated vehicles during an operation, which began from December 2014. Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Effia Tenge, Regional Public Relations Officer, told Ghana News Agency (GNA) that those arrested were violating the use of the plates. She said some of those arrested failed to effect the necessary entries in log books, did not display the number plates or logged in false entries. Others used forged licence plate and carrying passengers, which was contrary to Road Traffic Regulations. ASP Michael Asiedu Madina Divisional Motor Traffic and Transport Unit Police Commander, told GNA that after the arrest culprits within his jurisdiction, were arraigned and were fined between GH₵ 300 to GH₵ 1,800. He said the purpose of the exercise was to get rid of armed robbers who take advantage of the DV Plates to attack people.
