The Tema Police Command has warned chiefs and estate developers in the area to shun the services of landguards or the law will deal with them. Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Beatrice Vib-Sanziri Zakpaa, Tema Regional Police Commander, who gave the advice, said multiple sale of lands by some chiefs, estate developers and individuals, and their subsequent hiring of land guards to protect their lands, is giving the police a lot of security problems. DCOP Vib-Sanziri Zakpaa said, �I want to caution chiefs, estate developers and individuals who own lands around Adjei Kojo, Santeo, New York, Zenu, Ata Deka, Appollonia, among other troubling areas, about the multiple sales of lands to people. This is creating too many problems for the police, leading to controversies, where some aggrieved factions resort to the use of land guards.� The Tema Regional Police Commander gave the warning at Kanewu in the Adjei Kojo Electoral Area in Tema West, where it took charge of a new police post from the Tema Metropolitan Assembly (TMA). The landguards turn to be armed robbers in the night, she observed, thus warning that both landguards and their paymasters would not be spared if the police grab them. DCOP Vib-Sanziri Zakpaa opined, �No amount of intimidation by some of those developers will cow the police from carrying out their mandated functions in order to stop the lawlessness of landguards, which is a security threat.� She promised further that they would neither shield nor accept any interventions from any quarters or high-powered persons when such gangster chiefs, estate developers, individuals and their landguards are arrested. Commending the TMA for the police post, DCOP Vib-Sanziri Zakpaa promised that the police would continue to collaborate with the public to fight crime in the area. Mr Isaac Ashai Odamtten, the Tema Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE), said the assembly has earmarked the provision of 20 of such police posts in the metropolis. All the police posts, he promised, would be expanded to police stations in the future. He noted that the assembly is aware the police are lacking logistics, �but we need to provide you with the infrastructure, then the logistics would follow.� Mr Odamtten promised to erect a police post at the Adjei Kojo State School for the Deaf, where he once worked as an accountant, to up police presence in the area and ward off criminals who often access the school to harass the students.
