Work Starts On GH1.8 Million Police Clinic In Kumasi

Mr Samuel Sarpong, Ashanti Regional Minister, has performed the ceremony for construction works to begin on a GH1.8 million police clinic in Kumasi. The 40-bed capacity facility comes with consulting rooms, pharmacy, laboratory, children and medical wards. Added to this is residential accommodation for the medical personnel who would be assigned there. The project is being funded through voluntary public financial contributions, and already GH181,000 had been mobilised towards it. Mr Sarpong eulogised the Regional Commander, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Kofi Boakye, for the initiative, describing it as a right step. He said quality healthcare was critically important to development and urged the people to provide the needed help to ensure early and successful completion of the facility. He said the reality was that the Government could not do everything alone and that was why everybody should find space and contribute their quota to make things happen. DCOP Boakye said on completion, it would be manned by police-trained doctors and nurses and would be opened to the public. He spoke of the decision to open a special bank account for the project into which people could channel their donations. Total financial pledges made by individuals, so far, stands at GH260,000 out of which GH181,000 had been received, he added. Nana Adu Ansere Sarpong, Chief of Patasi and Mr Joseph Boakye Danquah, a businessman, promised to provide 50 bags of cement each to aid the construction of the clinic.
