First Vice Chairman of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Hon. Freddie Blay has cautioned his colleague politicians to stop putting up unnecessary defense for the few politicians who are involved in the drug trade. According to him, the country stands to lose if politicians put party jersey on every crime and drug trade, as the way politicians protect individuals who are involved in all sort of criminal activities will bleed chaos in the country. Commenting on Nayele Ametefe�s 8-year 8 months sentence, Hon. Freddie Blay said on Okay FM�s Ade Akye Abia Morning Show, that the NDC government has to deal with the negative image the drug case has brought since they meted out the same treatment to the NPP when Hon. Eric Amoateng was sentenced to 10 years in prison for drug trafficking. He posited that the convicted Nayele Ametefe should be made to reveal the other people who are involved in the drug trade as it is the only way to bring all her accomplices to face the full rigor of the law. He again said that politicians who seem to use drug cases as a fighting weapon against other political opponents will shoot themselves in the foot as it is happening to the NDC now. He asserted that crime is becoming a fashion that one�s political affiliation is good enough to get the culprit off the hook despite the gravity of the crime; stressing that such condoned behavior is a prescription for chaos in this country. �Crime is crime and this drug trade, the way to fight it is to go straight at it. Don�t put party jersey on it; any government or a politician who seems to use it as a fighting weapon against the other is probably using it as their dagger for themselves as we are seeing today. I agree we shouldn�t politicize it because if we do that we stand to lose...that thing is a prescription for chaos in this country,� he bemoaned. �Politicians do a lot of harm by involving in some small blame games and equalization; I am convinced in this country that politicians are not encouraging drug dealings in the country or elsewhere; there are clean people who are not involved in any crime but there are few among us who are involved and it is our responsibility to distance ourselves from them...we should expose them so that they don�t drag us along with them, otherwise all of us will be cited as drug dealers and criminals and that will not be good for this country,� he advised.
