Driver, 20, Jailed For Defilement

A-20-year-old driver, John Bekeh Kwame, who could not control his sexual desire, has landed in jail for defilement. Passing the sentence, the judge remarked that he had taken notice of the fact that the defilement has produced an issue. You pleaded guilty to the charge and I shall also sentence you to seven years to serve as a deterrent to you and others who want to have sex in a cheap way with minors, Mr Asmah Akwasi Asiedu, who presided over the Odumase Krobo Circuit Court, explained. Presenting the facts to the court, the Prosecutor, ASP Richmond Akwasi Yeboah, said the victim stays with her father and her stepmother in the same house, while Kwame, a taxi driver, stays at Kpong. The prosecutor said in September 2013, Kwame, who is a friend of the victims father, went to the house and invited the victim to his house and asked her to wash his clothes for him. ASP Yeboah said Kwame then asked the victim to come for money to buy soap for washing, and in the process he forcefully had sexual intercourse with her. According to the prosecutor, the victim kept mute over the issue until her biological mother saw her and suspected her of being pregnant. He said when the victim, who was then three months pregnant, was queried, she narrated her ordeal to her mother. ASP Yeboah said the mother reported to the police and she was given a medical report from the Akuse Government Hospital. He said the report from the medical doctor confirmed the pregnancy. The prosecutor said the victims mother later pleaded with the police to allow the victim to be delivered of the baby before Kwames arrest. He said Kwame was arrested and in his caution statements, admitted the offence and added that he took care of the victim and the baby.
