This Is Not Islam President Mahama On Paris Attacks

President John Mahama has spoken out against Wednesdays deadly attack by suspected Islamists on a French magazine, Charlie Hedo which resulted in the deaths of 12 people. According to the President, the attack and many others by suspected Islamists around the world was inconsistent with the teachings of Islam. Are we reading the same Holy Book? President Mahama asked on Friday. Most of those killed were journalists who worked at the publication which has courted controversy in the past with its presentation of news and current affairs topics, in a manner often described as irrelevant. The two masked gunmen, who were armed with assault rifles were reported to have shouted we have avenged the Prophet Muhammad This has led to suggestions that the attack may have been in response to the magazines caricature of the Prophet Muhammad in November 2011, when it was fire-bombed. Some arrests have so far been made in the French capital and the two main suspects who had been on the run since the incident, have been killed after police surrounded their hideout. The President also criticised Islamist militant attacks on the continent, which he felt were not a true representation of the religion. If poor school children are going to school to seek knowledge, what is their crime for them to be killed? he queried, apparently in reference to the killing of 47 school children in a school in Nigeria in 2014 by Boko Haram.
