Ghanaians Urged To Take Interest In Assembly Elections

Mr Antwi-Boasiako Sekyere, Eastern Regional Minister, has appealed to religious leaders and traditional authorities, to help mobilize the electorate to take active part in the forthcoming district assembly elections. He explained that under the current laws of the country, the Assemblies had been granted the responsibility for the development of their districts. The Regional Minister said, the situation therefore required that every citizen should demonstrate maximum interest in the district assembly elections, to ensure that knowledgeable and hard working personalities were elected to the Assemblies, to help in the taking of necessary decisions for the rapid development of the country. Mr Antwi-Boasiako made the appeal at a thanks-giving service for the newly-elected Eastern Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress(NDC), Mr Bismark Tawiah-Boateng, and the wife, Mrs Tawiah-Boateng, who suffered some fire injuries some few days to the NDC Regional Conference when fire burnt part of their house. The Regional Minister asked Ghanaians not to take the prevailing peace in the country for granted, but to do whatever they could for peace to prevail in the country, and expressed the appreciation of government for the prayers of the various religious organizations, that had ensured peace in the country. He said, it was unacceptable for the country to be attacked by cholera at this time of its development, and urged the religious organizations to use their platform to mobilize their congregation to take part in the national sanitation exercises. Mr Tawiah-Boateng appealed to Ghanaians to place the interest of the nation first in whatever they do, explaining that when the country develops, it affects all the citizenry. Very Reverend Mbiah-Baiden, Minister in-charge of Adweso Calvary Methodist Church, near Koforidua, reminded Mr Tawioah-Boateng that he should know that God set him aside for the position given to him for a special responsibility. He said, that does not mean that every thing will be smooth-sailing for him in the discharge of that responsibility, but should be assured that, God who gave him the position, will see him through, provided he relies on Him, abides by His word and calls Him for help.
