Mrs. Dzifa Aku Attivor, Minister for Transport, has charged board Chairpersons and members of the various state institutions under the ministry not to get deep involved in the day-to-day management of affairs of the institutions.

According to her, the duty for the board was to give experts, in the past some board chairpersons and members have taken over virtually every activity in state organization and those practices much seizes.

�The unfortunate practices in functions of the past, where the Boards virtually took over management should be avoided. I will entreat the board and management to work as a team to realize the objectives of the Authority,� she said.

Mrs. Attivor made the statement at a ceremony to inaugurate the reconstituted Board of Directors of the Ghana Maritime Authority (GMA) in Accra yesterday.

The sector Minister reminded the new board that the GMA was established under the ACT 630 of 2002 with responsibility of monitoring, regulating and coordinating activities in the maritime sector.

Further, she said, the recent arrest of the eight Nigeria pirates by the Eastern Command of the Ghana�s Navy was a clear indication that government decision to equip the Navy with the latest marine technological logistics to monitor and make arrest was not in vain.

She therefore assured that, government under the leadership of President John Mahama would continue to provide the necessary logistics for the Navy and Marine security services to confront the emerging piracy, sea robbery and human traffic.

Mrs. Attivor charged members of the board to let their experts bear on the GMA to help the country excel in its maritime and water transport system.

Earlier, Acting Executive Chairman of the State Enterprise Commission, Mr. Comynta Baezie charge the board to assist the management to do what is expected and avoid the act of taking over their functions.

He disclosed that, the commission with directive politics from the office of the Chief of Staff has outlined measures to be able to check some of the loopholes that create the unnecessary interfering of boards in management function.

Chairman of the Board, Hon. Felix Twumasi Appiah, a former Member of Parliament (MP) for Pru, On behalf of the board members thanked the President and the Minister for selecting them to serve on the GMA board.

He assured that, guided by the State Enterprise policies and guidelines, they would do their best to improve what their predecessors have left with GMA to enhance the country maritime industry.

Mr. Twumasi Appiah further stated that, the board would stick to their core mandate and would avoid any act or activity that would suggest of taking over functions of management of GMA.

Other Members of the Board are Mr. Peter Azumah, Mr. T.A. Selbey, Mr. Samuel Quarltey, Rear Admiral Biekro, Mr. Joseph Sutherland and Mr. Larsey Mensah.

The rest are Mr. Richard Anamoo, Alhaji Asoma Banda, Mr. Joseph Agbaka, Mrs. Naa Densua Aryeetey, Madam Esther Gyebi Donkor and Captain Hannah Aggrey.
