Kenyasi No.1 To Ban Special Funeral Clothes

Kenyasi No.1 Traditional Council is to ban the buying of special cloths for funerals in the Traditional area. The Paramount Chief of Kenyasi No.1, Nana Osei Kofi Abiri, announced this at the celebration of the first Akwasidae in the traditional area. According to Nana Osei Kofi Abiri, the ban on the buying of special cloths for funeral had become necessary because parents are attaching more importance to the buying of the clothes than the education of their children. The Paramount Chief of Kenyasi No.1 charged parents and guardians to invest in the childrens education without hesitation, since the best legacy parents and guardians could bequeath to their wards is to ensure a solid educational background. He regretted that parents, especially mothers, would move heaven and earth to buy a new cloth for the funeral of relatives or friends, while the childs school fees remained unpaid and exercise books and other learning materials not bought. According to Nana Osei Kofi Abiri, it is time parents set their priorities right by giving education the topmost attention, because it is only through education that the people could come out of poverty. Nana Osei Kofi Abiri appealed to parents to take keen interest in school activities and cautioned them against making schools the dumping ground for children. He again advised parents and guidance against encouraging the children into illegal mining Galamsey, but encourage them to seek better education first to ensure a secured and sound future. He said most parents encouraged their children, particularly the girl-child to dress promiscuously to expose them to activities that will affect their education. Nana Osei Kofi Abiri reiterated the ban on bushfire within the harmatan period saying anyone found culpable will be dealt with mercilessly. He commended the chiefs and people and the local Council of churches and other religious bodies for their support in developing the traditional area in peace and harmony.
