Midwife's Kidnapper For Court Tomorrow

An unemployed senior high school dropout who demanded GH400 ransom in return for a kidnapped midwife will appear before a court in Accra tomorrow. Even though the suspect, Famous Agbozo, admitted demanding the ransom, he could not tell the whereabouts of the midwife when he was arrested. The kidnapped midwife has not been found since October 14, 2014 when she was declared missing. Agbozo was traced and arrested by the police when he contacted the family of the victim to demand GH₵400 as ransom for the release of the victim. According to the police, the victim, in October last year, fell sick and moved from Asikuma Junction in the Asuogyaman District of the Eastern Region to reside with her sister at Nungua to recuperate. However, on October 14, 2014, the victim left home without her sisters knowledge and never returned. Alarmed by the situation, the victims sister informed her brother-in-law, who in turn lodged a complaint at the Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit (DOVVSU) at Nungua. A search was mounted for the victim but to no avail. A week after the search, the victims sister received a call from the suspect demanding the said amount for the release of the victim. The police stated that the victims sister tried to lure the suspect to disclose her sisters location but he refused, demanding that if they want to see the victim they should pay the ransom. After the call, the victims sister reported the matter to the police, who traced the suspect through the itemised bill of the said phone number and arrested him at his residence at Asikuma Junction. During interrogation, the suspect admitted having called the victims sister with his mobile phone demanding the ransom, but denied knowledge of the victims whereabouts.
