Ursula Owusu On Hacking Of Govt Website

Member of Parliament (MP) for Ablekuma West, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful has called on the Government of Ghana to take precautionary measures against hackers in the country. Speaking on Peace FM's "Kokrokoo", Mrs. Ursula Owusu-Ekuful advised security authorities to be on the alert and safeguard the nation's classified information and confidential documents. Citing the Sony Pictures Entertainment cyberhack in November 2014 where confidential data belonging to the company where leaked, Mrs Ekuful said the issue must not be taken for granted. Government on Wednesday confirmed that some hackers had hijacked its official electronic portal, www.ghana.gov.gh. The hacking of the website which was managed by the Information Services Department (ISD) under the auspices of the National Information Technology Agency (NITA) raised security concerns. Mrs. Ekuful noted that issues regarding cyber hack should not the trivialized since it poses threats to the country's security. She called on the management of the site to step up their game and not treat the issue with kid gloves because such approach would only be at the peril of Ghanaians.
