Portuphy Must Resign As NADMO Boss Kwesi Pratt

Seasoned journalist Kwesi Pratt Junior has backed calls for NDC chairman Kofi Portuphy to resign as National Coordinator of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO). The call for Portuphy to leave the post was first made by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament for Tema East, Titus Glover. He was subsequently backed by a group calling itself Concerned Branch Executives of National Democratic Congress. The group stressed that the NADMO Coordinator must step down in the spirit of fairness and the principles of the democratic tenets of the NDC. Commenting on the development on Peace FM Friday, the Insight newspaper editor wondered why the NADMO coordinator was still at post. According to him, its difficult to understand why he (Portuphy) is still at post; 'if I were him I would have resigned by now'. The man contested for the position of the National Chairman and won; she he continue to be the NADMO Boss? With this, whatever happens at NADMO can easily be politicised. In his own interest and his national interest, I am appealing to Kofi Portuphy to leave that job. He should not even wait for the President to tell him to go before he goes". Kwesi Pratt said even though he is not saying the NDC chair is going to misuse his position at NADMO, he must resign because "if NDC is no longer in power, he becomes the leader of the party. He must understand that he is the leader of the party. This practice where leading members in government also take up appointments on boards of state institutions must stop. As our democracy grows, we have to think deeply about them and make arrangement that will help us all, Pratt fumed. He continued: I dont have anything against Portuphy, I am not saying he will be bias but I think that since he is the chairman of the ruling party, he must leave NADMO and allow another person to do the job.
