Ghana Signs $7bn Contract To Produce Oil, Gas

The Minister of Petroleum, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah says government is doing all it can to bring the current energy crisis in the country to an end.

His comment follows the signing of a $7 billion agreement between Ghana government and Italian oil giant, ENI, for the production of about 180 million cubic feet of gas at Ghana’s Cape Three Point.

The project when completed will see the development of the Sankofa and Gye Nyame fields that will provide substantial gas to operate Ghana’s thermal power plants for 20 years.

Speaking in an interview on PEACE FM morning show ‘Kokrokoo’, Kofi Buah said he was hopeful the various projects government is undertaking will end the power crisis as well as increase the generation capacity in the country.

“There is so much going on and so we have a hopeful future in the power sector” he remarked. Kofi Buah who was part of the parties that signed for Ghana added that the project which is expected to take off in 2017will deliver 170 million cubic feet of gas per day and it is expected to generate an additional 1,100 megawatts of power for Ghana" he indicated.
