Bui Dam Is A Stupid Project

Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Solomon Nkansah has described the Bui Power Project as a ‘stupid project’ which does not inure to the benefit of the country.

The $622 million Hydroelectric Dam project which is built at the Bui Gorge located at the Southern end of the Bui National Park was expected to provide the country with an additional 400 megawatts of electricity.

However, the Dam has been unable to provide the needed power to the country causing the country to experience frequent power outages.

Solomon Nkansah discussing the issue of power outages, otherwise known as Dumsor on  Adom TV’s Pampaso, said there was the need for Ghanaians to blame the NPP for the crisis insisting that the erstwhile Kufuor administration never put in place the needed measures for the country to generate more megawatts of power.

He said instead of the NPP concentrating on executing ‘meaningful’ projects which would have provided the country with more power, the government of the time chose to embark on a ‘stupid project’ like the Bui Dam.

According to him, it was unwise for the NPP to build the Dam on the same river course which flows downstream to power the Akosombo Dam.

Asked why the NDC continued with the project despite the Mahama administration knowing it would not be beneficial to the country, Solomon Nkansah said they were forced to do so ‘just to expose to Ghanaians how stupid the project is.” “Yes, we had to do so to point out to Ghanaians that the project touted by the NPP as part of their achievements was a stupid one which never inured to our benefit…,” he responded.

A communicator from the NPP who was on the show, called on Ghanaians to discard the arguments of the NDC executive since he ‘was only displaying his ignorance on energy issues.’
