Mahama in Addis Ababa for AU Summit

President John Dramani Mahama has arrived in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, for the 24th Ordinary Session of the Assembly of Heads of State and Government of the African Union (AU).

The theme for the Summit is "2015, Year of women empowerment and development towards Africa's Agenda 2063".

Ahead of the main Summit, President Mahama will on Thursday meet Heads of State and Government of ECOWAS and address the AU's Peace & Security Council on the subregion's recommendations for tackling terrorism on the continent.

A statement issued by the Flagstaff House said President Mahama will also chair a meeting of the AU High Level Committee on African Trade, and is expected to present the Committee's report to the main Assembly on Saturday.

The Summit will among others elect a new President for the Union, discuss the theme, review the AU's response to Ebola, review and adopt the Agenda 2063.

The leaders will also attend the 22nd Summit of the African Peer Review Forum of Heads of State and Government.
