Interior Minister Calls For Security Alertness On Eastern Borders

Mr Mark Woyongo, the Minister for Interior, on Monday instructed security services in the Volta Region to strengthen security along the country’s eastern borders ahead of general elections in Nigeria.

He said intelligence showed that some Nigerians were heading for   Ghana through the Volta Region and actions must be taken to prevent people who would want to come and create problems.

Mr Woyongo gave the instruction when he paid a courtesy call on Madam Helen Ntoso, the Volta Regional Minister, as part of his two-day official visit to the Region.

He appealed to security personnel to be vigilant especially on unapproved routes to ensure that illegal immigrants did not enter the country and cause trouble.

Mr Woyongo particularly expressed concern about activities of Fulani herdsmen and said the country would soon take a decision on their operations.

Mr Woyongo appealed to the chiefs and people of Nkonya and Alavanyo to consider using dialogue to resolve their long- running land dispute.

Madam Ntoso said except for Nkonya and Alavanyo land dispute, the Region was largely peaceful.
