Youth Want GYEEDA Bill Passed Soon

Parliament has been urged to hasten the passage of the Ghana Youth Employment and Entrepreneurs Development Agency (GYEEDA) Bill into law to provide job openings and bring some respite to the teeming unemployed youth.

The Social Development Club (SDC), made up of social clubs registered under the National Youth Council (NYC) in the Kumasi Metropolis, said, “The youth are eager to see GYEEDA get going”.

“It is the way forward – one of the good interventions by the government, whose benefits are tremendous,” it said.
This was contained in a press statement signed jointly by the SDC’s Chairman, Ahmed Sada, and the Secretary, Fauzia Salifu.

It applauded the government for moving swiftly to provide the appropriate legal framework to regulate and legitimize the activities of GYEEDA.

The statement said the contribution of the intervention towards the socio-economic development of the country was not in doubt and was widely appreciated.

The SDC noted that the freeze of the various GYEEDA’s modules - hairdressing, dressmaking, community teaching assistants, community policing and health extension assistants had thrown over 30,000 of its members onto the street to add to the unemployment numbers.

It said any delay in the passage of the bill could only compound the situation of the unemployed and that must be avoided.
