NDC's Promises To End Dumsor Rather Worsens The Crisis - Nana Akomea

Director of Communications of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Akomea is optimistic that nothing positive will come out of the one year short term promise by the Minister of Power, Dr. Kwabena Donkor to curtail the current erratic power supply.

According to him, it is the prayer of Ghanaians to see the regular flow of electricity in the country to boost businesses but unfortunately the promises of the NDC government for almost 3 years to resolve the erratic power supply has not seen a little improvement except to go worse by the day.

Speaking on Oman FM’s Morning Show to react to the press conference by the Power Minister in Accra on Monday, Nana Akomea reminded the Minister that the energy crisis didn’t start 3 months ago but since May 2012 as every promise from that time by President Mahama to resolve the situation has gone worse; finding it difficult to buy the promise of the sector Minister.

He insisted that Ghana’s energy crisis has deteriorated in recent times, with the authorities blaming the situation on low water level in the Akosombo dam and lack of gas to power the country’s thermal plants.

“..it started in May 2012 and there have been several attempts, excuses and promises by government to end the Dumsor; if we had seen any improvement in the attempts so far by government, we will gladly accept the promise of the Power Minister but rather the situation keeps worsening by the day. The Dumsor started with 8 hours a day, moved to 10 hours, then 12 hours and now 24 hours and sometimes 52 hours...so the more the encouragement to keep on hoping for improvement, the more the situation worsens”, he stated.

“The President has promised not to promise again about regular flow of electricity power but if the Minister of Power says by the end of the year, there will be regular supply of power, then we will pray for him to make it possible”, he added.
